Default Interesting article about intenet gambling

Despite the source, I found this to be fairly informative about internet gambling in some ways. It's from James Dobson's Focus on the Family, part of the Taliban wing of the Republican Party, but it actually gives a pretty decent review of the state in internet gambling in some respects. Considering the source, I leave it to the reader to seperate fact and fiction. Still an entertaining read.

Here is a link.

The gangs thing looks to be reasonably accurate.

i only skimmed to look at the gang section, but DDoS blackmail is a fairly common tactic originating from poorer/smaller but reasonably technologically advanced countries

You're kidding. I am not an expert on this issue and did not know. I guess I just set my BS detector to ultra sensative b/c of the source.

I would have thought that online sites would invest in better security. How is this a problem?

It was pretty big around your registration date, I'll go see what I can dig up.

it's not a matter of security, it's a matter of bandwidth

the sites have a large, but still finite amount of connectivity to the internet. consider it a phone line. it has to answer when anybody calls, because it might be a valid customer. people flood the sites with garbage data from hundreds/thousands of separate computers throughout the world, saturating the site's available bandwidth. even if they ignore the data that is sent to them, it still arrives and would produce a busy signal for anybody else.

What You Can Do:

Don’t gamble online
It’s illegal and you’re defeating the cause. Better yet, don’t gamble at all! You and your loved ones will be much happier—and wealthier. This is a sure bet!

Hehehe. Thanks for the entertaining read, Greg. I especially enjoyed all of the veiled threats about the US being "forced" to back out of the WTO (and how that would break Antigua). And of course the obligatory "You're funding terrorism!" bullet point.
