Re: WSOP player of the year?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Kind of an odd point system with Cardplayer.... Cunningham gets 960 points for winning an event with 2,305 players, $1,500 buy-in. Witteles gets 1,440 points for winning an event with 406 players, $3,000 buy-in. [/ QUOTE ] I think you're missing the fact that Todd also took third in the $1500 Limit event that had about 1050 people. -Aces [/ QUOTE ] No - I was simply comparing the relative points between two tournaments. |

Re: WSOP player of the year?
No doubt, the Cardplayer system doesn't make sense.
I won the WSOP of the Year race simply because of a strange "cap" their point system uses regarding the number of entrants. Once a tournament has more than 400 entrants, you earn the same number of points as you would in an event with 6000 entrants. Obviously that's unfair. I see what they were trying to do -- prevent the situation where the Main Event winner automatically becomes WSOP of the Year champion also -- but they took it to an extreme. But no matter. I didn't create the system. I don't even know what I get for winning it. I was disappointed that I wasn't allowed direct entry into the WSOP main event, and instead was told to stand in the 3-hour line with the general spectators. In hindsight, I am not that disappointed I missed it, given the lack of "name" players in the finals, and the length (18 hours) of the event. |

I wonder if you objectively consider your performance to be more "impressive" than, say, Seif's or Cunningham's. I wish a real statistician would take a crack at an accurrate and intuitive points system for tournament poker - one with a less flawed way to counterbalance the weight of "super events" that would skew the results. |
