Another Hollywood Casino (Illinois) Trip Report
Hollywood Casino in Illinois has a poker room that is subpar on multiple fronts:
- few tables (6 - one 20/40, two 10/20, three 5/10) - no call-ins to get on the waiting list - overly slick Bud Jones chips - divot in the felt near its intersection with the rail - preventing you from stacking your chips there (not true at one of the five tables I have sat at) - closed on the weekends to make room for more table games - pay for parking ($2, $5 valet) - pay for casino admission ($5) Despite all of these things, I find the Hollywood room to be worthwhile. The play is so bad that I think you can easily make up for the $7 cost. I made my second trip out there today, and played for about three hours, two in the 5/10 and one in the 10/20. The 5/10: tighter than I would expect for their lowest limit game (as compared to Trump's 3/6), though still fairly loose pre-flop. Average to the flop 4-6 for 1-2 bets. If three-bet, then 2-3 to the flop. Post-flop play is pretty passive. The players at the table are pretty much divided equally between really-old-guy-sporting-an-oxygen-tank and really-young-guy-with-a-hand-stamp (to prove he's over 21). The 10/20: Very loose preflop, very straightforward post-flop. SSH applies here. Average to the flop: 5-7 for 1-2 bets. I'm bored of writing this, you must be bored of reading it. I expect that I'll go back. -Ash |

Forgot a funny exchange
At some point I got moved from the feeder 5/10 to the "main game." The guy on my left asked shortly after I sat down, "do you play a lot?" I looked at my watch and remarked, "I suspect that most people sitting here at 2:30pm on a Tuesday play a lot."
