any situation against a fish where you've got a showdown hand.

Bet/folding is very often a superior line to check/calling on the river when you've been showing aggression the entire hand.

Say you raise PF with AJs and go in HU but out of position.

Flop is KJ4. Bet, call.
Turn is 9. Bet, call.
River is T. If you check here, your opponent will bet all hands that beat you (Kx/JT/T9/Qx, etc.) but check behind all hands you beat. He's also virtually never going to raise a hand you beat. But he might very well call with a hand like AT or other random hands you beat.

I am not sure I should be the one who is giving advice on this play for I screw it up plenty.

You should make this play when a raise clearly indicates you are beat but your hand still have showdown value and will get called by a lot of players with worse hands.

I think that statement is in every poker book I've ever read. OP should buy one.

I may be incorrect but I believe that this river needs to be value bet, however the correct line would proably be bet fold because there is virtually no way I'm beating a raise.
