Default Tunica January tournies (WSOP/WPT)

In the past, Horseshoe hosted the WPO all January with the 10k WPT event at the end of the month. This year when I go to Pokerpages, I see only the final WPT event for the WPO from January 22 until the 26th. But I also see a WSOP Poker Circuit event from January 5 until the 26th at the Grand Casino. No information on that one.

Anyone know the details of these 2 tournies?

Ken

no freaking idea but i'm curious about this too.

sure looks like we might have $10k main-events in the same area either in the same week or in consecutive weeks.

I don't know what's up with Horsehoe/Gold Strike.
are they going to continue to team-up to host this event?

They didn't have the Binion's Mid-summer classic at the Horseshoe this year like they have in the past.
Instead they had a WSOP-circuit event at the Grand.

Grand and Horseshoe both under the Harrah's umbrella.

Whatever the plans are (possibly 2 $10k events??)...I'm fairly confident there will be PLENTY of poker in Tunica all through January.

I asked chipr777 this about 2 months ago and he said he wasn't sure about the schedule.

Horseshoe is having a series of tournaments through October (Fall Classic or something I think they are calling it).
Perhaps they'll start promoting their WPO schedule at this time (although I have a feeling that things might not be quite finalized yet regarding who's doing what).

Horseshoe and Gold Strike are no longer affiliated. I heard someone today say the Gold Strike (WPO) tourney will be moved to February but I just got off the phone with Gold Strike and they said it would still be in Janurary starting the 9th. The official dates will be out this week. Harrah's (Horseshoe and Grand) will be running a WSOP circuit event Jan. 5-26. If Gold Strike doesn't move their event to February then there will be 2 $10,000 events in the same town in the same month. Can you say hot bed? I can't imagine who won't be there.

Thanksfor the update.

I thought it was only a Gold Strike event now but wasn't sure.

I'm not exactly a big-time name but I am hoping I am anywhere BUT Tunica during this time.

Early Jan - Poker Stars Bahamas tourney
Mid Jan - Aussie Millions (sat's on Party)
Late Jan - EPT Denmark

I asked my GF which one she would want to go to the most if I am lucky enough to win my way to one of them...then I said, "oh wait....I'm forgetting the biggest one of all. We can travel ALL the way to Mississippi instead!! And I know how MUCH you would rather go to a truly exotic location like Mississippi than some run-of-the-mill, boring place like the Bahamas, Australia or Europe!!"

Seriously:
Lots of the top-name players will probably play both the Bahamas AND the WSOP-circuit and/or WPO.
There likely won't be a ton of top-name guys in Denmark or Australia obviously.

I agree with the general sentiment that Tunica WILL be pretty crazy.

I would really like to see what would happen if the WPO and WSOP-circuit held their events in the same week or back-to-back weeks.

ok...this is not confirmed...but pretty decent info from what I understand.

grand is under the Harrahs umbrella now...we all know that. And Gold strike is now part of MGM-Mirage (can you say Bellgio & Bobby Baldwin in the same sentence?).

Harrahs (I believe they instigated this) in their infinite wisdom seem to have chosen to take arguably the #2 poker tournament in the world and make it a WSOP series event (espn contracts) rather than continue to co-host with Gold Strike and PAY WPT for the Final event. Yes, in case you didnt know, WPT locales PAY the WPT to be a member tournament for the final events. Harrahs (IMO) would NEVER pay to hold an event.

So now it seems Gold Strike will still host the WPO as a WPT event during the same time frame!! Some inside information says the Tournament Director who's name shall remain anonymous, is very well known in poker. Suggesting it is very possible (according to 1 big name I spoke to last week) most of the big names may play at Gold Strike rather than the Grand. hmmmm...interesting.

Now mind you, nothing is confirmed. Just some recent info I got as to some things being worked on in this area.

Sounds like possibly one of these two big players (Harrahs and MGM-Mirage) got an idea they would be better off alone then doing what has been proven to be extremely successful already.
