Re: tell us an obscure movie you absolutely love...

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Fandango - 1984 film starring a young Kevin Costner (who I otherwise dislike) and Judd Nelson that I am partial to. Great choice. [/ QUOTE ] i knew there must be another Fandango fan out there somewhere. The last 10 minutes just get me every single time. Haven't watched it in awhile....might pop it in the VCR tonight (you guys remember VCR's, right??) [/ QUOTE ] I like Fandango, too...great movie....I love the whole tying the car to the train bit - very funny. [/ QUOTE ] I agree. Great flick and I'm not even a Costner fan. |

[ QUOTE ]
Royal Tennenbaums is not even close to obscure. Sorry. Anything with Gene Hackman and Gwyneth Paltrow can't qualify. I thought this movie was okay....but not blown-away by it. My ex freaking loved it though. Watched Fandango again tonight. The last 10-15 minutes or so got me yet again. I'm such a sap. Has anyone rented the new version of Fail Safe based on my recommendation? Man that movie creeps me out. [/ QUOTE ] Fail Safe is a great movie...but I prefer the old version... |

Just thought of another one. Dunno how obscure it is in the US, my guess being not very, but it is still noteworthy.
The Princess Bride. |

Re: tell us an obscure movie you absolutely love...
Stranger Than Paradise is great. It was absolutely huge in its time and for a very long time after. A very much loved film.
I loved many parts of Down by Law, too. It didn't work as well, but man, so many parts of it worked soooo well. It even enabled me to stand that Italian comedian, whose name I forget now, who did that "Life is Beautiful" film. I've really gotta rent those two and see them again. Kentucky Fried Movie was a gut buster. Not all of it was good, but that was another one where it's hard to imagine now that some people don't know it. It was a monster hit when it first came out, and everyone I knew saw it about as many times as they could take without blowing their brains out. I laughed my ass off at that one, and so did everyone I knew. Great fun. It's funny, by now, you go back to some of those comedies and they probably don't seem so outrageous or original, and it's almost like you have to train yourself to see them clearly. But it's cool to see the sources of the type of comedy everyone's been feeding off for decades. |

[ QUOTE ]
"Seven Days in May" Fredric March plays the role of the U.S. president, who has reached a low in his popularity, but manages to get a nuclear disarmament treaty through the Senate. Burt Lancaster stars as a popular member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his mad obsession with, and fear of a Soviet nuclear attack finally turns him against the president and leads him to a plot to overthrow the government. Kirk Douglas also stars as a lower ranking officer who learns of the plot and must find a way to try and dismantle the scheme. It's an old black and white movie (1964), but it's a very well made drama. [/ QUOTE ] +1 Excellent movie on many levels. |
