Default One of the most boneheaded poker stories you have ever heard

I just wanted to share with you this funny and embarrasing story I have, even though I am ashamed to admit it. I was on a casino cruise in a $115 buy-in no-limit texas hold-em tourney. There were only 43 entrants this day, so the top 7 spots paid, $1600 to $275. We were down to 11, and I was still in with about 7500 chips. Blinds were 2000-4000, but there were 4 other players left with less chips than I had. I was in the small blind with 10 8 both diamonds. When I looked down at my cards, the guy next to me had his cards up, and out of the corner of my eye, i could see- K 2 offsuit. I called, he checked, and we had one other player in the pot. Cool, I thought, I know what I am up against, well, one of them at least. The flop came 9 5 2, 2 diamonds. First player checked, I considered betting on my flush draw, but didn't, and I guess this is where my memory went blank, because I didn't even think about the K 2 next to me. He checked, though, obviously, with only a pair of dueces. The turn card came with another 2, but no diamond. First player checks, and then my stupid poker intuition kicked in. "The board shows 9 5 2 2, the other players checked the first round, they must have nothing, I am on a flush draw, if I go all in, I will be representing the 2, they will fold, and I will take down an important pot at that stage." Well, as soon as my chips were pushed in, I remembered what the guy next to me had. He called, immediately, of course, and I reluctantly turned over my hand. I still could have caught a diamond on the river, but it didn't happen, and I finished 11th. Within 10 minutes, they were down to the final 7, which could have included me if not for my boneheaded memory lapse! Feel free to respond, and let me know how stupid I was!!

Hmmm... The only thing I can say is - Have you considered any other interests as a hobby in lue of poker? It must be a very expensive for you! No, with all due respect, I believe I played in the same tournament and finished behind you (was it 17th m?). If you're gonna cheat and look at another player's cards, at least try to remember what they are!

You ass! Yes I did finish ahead of you ( as I do in almost every tournament we play in together). I think 17th is being generous, but ok. It's just that poker intuition that takes over, and i completely blanked about what I had seen one minute before. I don't understand it and can't explain it. I just know I look like an idiot for trying to represent a hand that I know the guy next to me actually has, but forgot he had it. Maybe I'm not cut out for poker! But I will still finish higher than you in any tourney we play together! Dead Money!

As I recall, on that same ship, the tournament we played together prior to that I finished 13th out of 109 entrants and you didn't make it in the upper half. Let's hear another story like maybe the dealer flipped up your card on pocket nines and mucked one of them.

P.S. anytime you want to go heads up bring it on. I'll even show you my cards once in a while.

Alright, now let's not get too carried away here pokerBOY. Remember, I did at least play in the nuts, did you? And how about my 2nd place finish in the pokerroom tourney with 750 players? What was your highest finish there? You know about the bad beat story I had the first time on the cruise ship with the careless dealer, and you know what could have happened had I tripled up that hand like I would have. And, as far as your challenge, I need a little time to get over my dreams being crushed yesterday, so I am in no shape to play right now, at least. Let me get over this first, then, it's on. Let's get it on!
