"Gap theory" is the (mostly NLHE tournament applied) theory that it takes a stronger hand to CALL a raise than it takes to RAISE with.

an example would be, middle rounds of a tourney and your in late MP with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

If know one has raised before you, you should raise. If there has been a raise before you (assuming there hasnt been callers too) you should probably fold (I throw in probably because in this example we are discounting reads, and table image ect)
