He opted for the latter, and moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1977 at the age of eighteen, where he made his father proud by earning a degree in Business Administration from Friend's University. He then joined his brother in Houston, Texas, and began putting his formal education to use.

But Sam was also his mother's son, after all, and he had the heart of a gambler. So, just eighteen months later, when a friend invited him over one night for a game of poker, Sam found his true calling. He had never played poker before, but he paid careful attention to the cards--and especiall his opponents--and left that night a couple of thousand dollars richer. "I can make money at this," he told himself. So, armed with the sound business sense ingrained by his father and the gambling spirit he'd inherited from his mother, Sam began devising his winning strategy.

The book sounds really cool from the proposed chapter summaries they list. And Farha is a badass. Would love to read what he has to say.

I can't find any more info about this book and don't even know if it has been written by now or if he found a publisher. Maybe TwoPlusTwo could publish it? Does anyone here know anything else about this?

Farha -- like Johnny Chan -- is originally from Houston. Farha got his start playing at home and underground games in Houston.

There are a few people around town who claim Farha has welched on a few gambling debts.

This is the first I've heard of a Farha book.

Mason has told me more than once that he's not really interested in publishing poker books which tell life stories or other tales of "poker life". He's been approached many times by people who have all sorts of stories which they tell to everybody who will listen.

I'm sure Mason could make lots of money publishing all sorts of stories like this. But, it just doesn't seem like it's what Mason wants to do. He seems very focused on simply producing books which are designed to make the reader a better poker player or overall gambler.

It seems that's keeping him busy enough.

Maybe its just me but there are many poker players I would place above Sam to spend my time reading/learning about.

Farha is a winning high stakes player who has great intuition. If he can somehow put his intuitions into words, then this book would be worth a read.

Also sounds like a much more interesting life story than say, Phil Hellmuth's.
