Default Stud High (€3/€6) - UGH

In the spirit of the request for more stud high posts, here we go. I know this is hard to read but there is no converter for the crypto sites. you can ignore deciphering the suits I think.

This is a very passive table with a lot of limpers so I figure I will give it a go on 3rd and see if I improve...YAHTZEE!, or so I thought. Villain is a regular player who is pretty solid but not spectacular by any means:

It's an easy call. He's probably got 8s full, maybe quads. I call the river, too, unimproved toss in a raise if I fill, and call a three bet. I made kings full in five against a weak player the other day. He paired his door card T and we capped up fifth, sixth and seventh. He showed me quads.

Okay, he was on a flush draw and you're winning. Is that better? Seriously, chances are, he called your paired 9s with either two pair or trips. When he catches the third 8, it makes it much more likely it was two pair that has now filled. This is really, really basic hand-reading right? If he has the quads, he's going to win a good pot. Most of the time, you'll win if you fill. And your trip nines will be good often enough unimproved to make calling a bet on the river pretty easy, imho.

Only Sklansky gets to be cryptic on this site -- if there's something you think I'm missing, spit it out.

I dont think there is anything you are missing and I think you are right in calling down.

he had this:

----- RIVER -----
dealt to Hero [9d 4c 9h 9c 3c Js][Ad]
Villain: bets €6
Hero: calls €6
----- SHOW DOWN -----
Villain: shows [4d 5s 6s 7s 8c 8h 8d] (A Straight, Eight high)
Hero: mucks hand [9d 4c 9h 9c 3c Js Ad]
Villain collects €54.25 from Main pot

(hero adds villain to buddy list).

In the 2-4 game where I lost with kings full to quad tens, the weak player wound up with about $120 on the table and I ended up with about $70. Within about 20 minutes, I had $150 and he had about $90. EV does not always manifest so quickly, but it will out.
