I’d won a lot of money in the side games.

Hi Aces:

Based on my understanding, Hellmuth has never done very well in side games despite his success in the tournaments. In fact, I also undersand that he quit playing side games several years ago. So the fact that he includes this statement in his story makes the whole thing to me suspect.

With that said, you always need to be vigilant no matter what game you are playing in, and if things don't feel right, it might be best just to take your loss and get up.

Best wishes,
Mason

wouldn't he have had to won at side games to pay for his tournament entries at sometime (before he was famous).

Did he not pay his college expenses with poker before droppig out? That was my understanding. He had to be good at crushing smaller games or he wouldnt have made it so far.
