The "hands" reset every day. So while if you tried to become a VIP in one day it would take some millions of hands, over time it isn't as bad. The system is still pretty screwed though.

no doubt.
this question is getting asked WAY too much. You get the sq-rt of the number of raked hands you play EVERY DAY. So if you play 100 hands in a day (from midnight to midnight eastern) you get 10 points. Or doubled to 20 points if you already have 5k points (and thus are in VIP club). Or...if you are playing 1600 raked-hands a day on empire that's 40 points/day (or doubled to 80 if you have already been bumped to VIP status...they sometimes just tae some players who have less than 1k points and give them 5k points).
