Default buying a dvd writer/rom

hey guys,

I have an older PC: Celeron 1.4 gig, 384 mb of ram, windows xp home edition. My CDrom/writer has busted and I am looking to upgrade. I want a drive that can write both DVDs and CDs as well as play the two. I am probably gonig to get a new pc within a year to 18 months, so I don't need anything too high quality. Will this work for me?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00023X...5Fencoding=UTF8

I need to buy it from amazon because I have a $75 gift certificate.

Thanks

I don't know all that much about them but that is compatible with both + and - (important, I hear) *and* it'll do double layer. That may be what the difference between + and - is, I don't know.

I'd buy it.

DVD-R is more compatible with standalone DVD players.
DVD+R are generally faster.

Dual Layers will allow you to copy DVD's without re-compressing (generally), they can hold 8GB.
