Crossroads (Ry Cooder)
Streets Of Fire (Ry Cooder)

Kay, I've hit the twilight zone. I listened to these on the way to work, really digging them, and they inspired the OP...

"Crossroads" was the default answer for me on this. All of Ry Cooder's movie work is fantastic, but he hit the jackpot on this, both in terms of material and the performance. The soundtrack is completely integral to the movie as well. Probably my favorite cut, which is not really prominent in the film, is Amy Madigan singing "He Made a Woman Out Of Me."

"Streets of Fire" is lots of cheesy fun with some more fantastic Ry Cooder guitar work thrown in. The Jim Steinman tunes (performed by Fire Inc.) are top notch overblown overdramatic overwritten rock and roll excess in the classic Steinman style. Throw in tunes written by Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks and Bob Seger, add in Link Wray's "Rumble" performed by Ry Cooder, you've got yourself a winner.

I'm a fan of most Cooder work. His scores for "Paris, Texas", "Last Man Standing", and "The Long Riders" are fantastic scores. He generally seems to work with Walter Hill or Wim Wenders. I can't remember if I came to love Walter Hill movies because of Ry Cooder, or if I came to love Ry Cooder because of Walter Hill movies. Probably a bit of both.

Right, I'm freaked out now. I was listening to THAT TRACK as I read this message.

I'm gonna lie down somewhere with a bag over my head. See you later.

The piece of Opera in Hannibal was written specifically for the movie. It is Dante Alighieri's 1st sonnet set to music.

[quoteAnthony Hopkins wrote that, if you're talking about the one in "Hannibal," and he didn't if there's some other movie of that title.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hans Zimmer composed it, IIRC.
