Default Closest card room to Atlanta?

I really like playing cards in casino, but I live near Atlanta. What are the closest options?

I know there are a ton of cash games around here, but I'm not very keen on that environment. A couple of my friends have actually been robbed while playing at games that were posted on the Web.

Thanks.

Tunica, Biloxi, Gulfport take your pick... I recommend Tunica ($25/$35 roommate weekday/weekend is sweet)

About a 7 hour drive tho... so not exactly "close". I heard a rumour Harrahs Cherokee in NC will have poker soon, but that "soon" has been 6 months coming.

I think all of us Tunica, Mississippi (near Memphis) semi-regulars have had frequent sessions with out-of-towners who came in from Alabama, Atlanta and even the Carolinas.

At least every time I go down there i seem to be sitting next to somebody who made the 6-10 hour drive from somewhere to the east just to play a couple days of poker.

Tunica is probably considered the best poker destination in the south.

January feautres two big tournaments in the area that will sell-out many of the hotels and jam the poker-rooms with literally thousands of players playing everything from the biggish tournaments, to the big cash-games to the small-time stuff (World Poker Open at Gold Strike and WSOP-circuit at the Grand...but the Horseshoe will definitely be crazy too).

lots of threads about Tunica in the B&M forum. Do a search for more info

Good news: They HAVE built a poker room at the Harrah's.
Bad news: The state says NO poker is not allowed on the premises.
Good news: Poker/Alcohol might get voted in in the future.

Don't forget about SilverStar in Philadelphia, MS. Lots of Atlantans come there.

They are thinking about allowing poker in the casinos in the Creek Indian Tribe in Montgomery.

From what I can see, it looks like Tunica or thereabouts is a possibility. However, it seems like it's about an hour from the airport in Memphis. Correct?

I don't see me driving 350 to 400 miles for this trip. It's a little more than I would drive for a couple days of poker.

If I am going to fly, it's about a 90-minute flight, but then I have about an hour's drive in front of me to get to the casino, don't I? Frankly, if I'm going to spend the money on a flight and deal with the airport and security, etc., I would just as soon make the 4-1/2 hour flight to Vegas.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for all the helpful advice.

Lots of people don't have a problem making the drive...if you don't want to that's up to you of course.

The airport is only 30-35 minutes away from the Tunica casinos for what it's worth.

If you are trying to map-quest it or something you should know that you would actually be going to Robinsonville, Mississippi (in Tunica county) which is where the casinos are.
There's a town called Tunica about 20 minutes further south of the casinos so that may be throwing off your estimates.

Well for some people road trips are fun... take a half day on Friday and hit the road at lunch, get to Tunica around dinner, grab a quick comp and eat. Play till 4 AM. Do I wish there was something closer? You bet... but 6-7 hours with 3 friends and a grand ole time for under 100 bucks for the weekend (35 roommate, split gas 4 ways) is a deal for me every day of the week.
