it sounds like you're driving down there from san jose. can you stop off at the commerce and put your roll in a box?
I have no idea if the distances make this feasible, but you could set off an hour or two early to make it on time.

It's entirely feasible. I was going to have to pick up a friend from West LA but he is no longer going with us. I'm sure the girls won't mind a quick stop to Commerce so I can put some money in a safe box..

Now the question is do they have something like this and who do I need to contact?

Is having $4,000 in Mexico that big a deal? If you're uncomfortable, just bring 2k to Mexico and pick up more at your bank on Monday. Another option is to call Commerce and arrange to set up a "front money" account. You mail them a check tomorrow, they cash it, you'll have time for it to clear(or you can wire money to them instead)...then you can draw off it when you get to the Casino (and depo back into it if you make money, or just cash it all out at the end). Have a good trip.

Taking $4k through TJ and Rosarito is that big of a deal.

I've been arrested in Mexico before (not actually booked) by a crooked cop who basically took all the money I had on me before dropping my ass off way on the outskirts of town.

If I had $4k on me, I'd have been $4k poorer.

$1,000 or $2,000 in the spare tire compartment of my car or something like that may be doable though and is seeming like the most hassle free way to do this.

I don't know if this is confirmed fact, but I've heard that the trace amounts of cocaine on $100 bills can be detected when in large numbers by drug sniffing dogs. Since dectection of hidden money = cavity search, I think I'd either make sure this is urban legend or find another way to go.

Call them and ask for a box. AFAIK, they have some available. You'll just need to fill out some paperwork and leave a $50 deposit while you're there.

safest way would be to bring cash to cali, play poker, before you go to mexico turn the cash into travelers cheques at a bank. It's at least a safe way to keep your money on you in mexico...this way you get to play, plus you have insurance on your money in mexico which isn't a bad thing.

I'm not driving my car into Mexico so I doubt this is a problem. It's staying in Chula Vista.

Travelers checks can be free. If you have a AAA card I think you can buy up to $5,000 with no fees. Also my bank account - Wachovia- gives me free travelers checks.
