Oh dear god, that wasn't even a *good* fake CS email.

Sure, an out-of-control gambler who demands their account be closed, but gambles anyway and then wants their losses back is a long term "valuable customer" in so many ways -- not like the more typical affluent fish who can afford his losses, and tells all his friends about "how fun it it" (and selectively recounts his big wins). Yeah, those normal gamblers are trouble, and are a painfully scary warning to everyone around them: "This could be you".

I'm sure all our real CS e-mails include a 'remember when' like a best friend fondly recounting a 'drunk story', instead of stopping with a boring "A review of your transaction history shows that you have been a loyal, valued customer..."

No matter how much money you've made them in the past, a casino only cares what you can do for them NOW. They don't want the hassle of problem gamblers. Sure, they'll take your money, but you just flagged yourself as a potential problem. If they gave back your losses, they'd be left with only the hassles (and a lot more of them!) That'd hardly make you a valued customer. Your closed account can't make them money, and a problem gambler in a casino tends to become a problem in other areas, too -- especially once they blame 'daddy' for the car crash because "he told me he'd hide my keys".

That's not a slam at casinos. Most businesses will do the same. Even a bank that accidentally forgets to place a stop-check order won't give you back your money, if they find out you wrote the check AFTER you put the stop order in. Legally, that's fraud.

I sincerely apologize if I am mistaken, but if I read the situation correctly, that feeble attempt to reclaim your table image could only give a few vulnerable posters false hope, and that really bugs me.

I had the same exact reaction when I read it. Weird language for support email. I just put it down to non-native English writer possibly.

Wait what? They are saying they will refund your gambling losses after a certain date b/c you have a gambling problem and requested your account to be cancelled, which they did not do. And they are also saying they want to retain you as a customer? WTF?

I can almost understand where the OP is coming from. For example, I don't mind admitting I had a "problem" with Blackjack in my early days. I would say I was also addicted too, however, Poker is +Ev for me, whereas I know that against the house I just cannot win in the long run.

The same could be true about sports betting -- if you have a bigger edge than the house take on sports bets then in the long run you will come out on top, but online casinos, regardless of how much you play you will *never* have an edge.

I recall Paradise introducing blackjack recently and I immediately asked them to restrict my access to their BJ tables -- they couldn't do it, so I closed my account until they could make this restriction (which they now have).

I think that if a player asks for self-exclusion in house games they may well have a "gambling problem", but in the same breath may be a perfectly good Poker Player/Sports Bettor who you would and could justify keeping on as a customer.

Regardless of whether the above posts from the OP are genuine, I feel that the casino/sportsbook made the correct call, or would be making the correct call in returning such funds.

I would also say that had the OP gone to whichever gaming commission they were regulated by, they would be in serious trouble for not accomodating the original request.

Just my take on the matter.

Ellis

I'm sorry you have a gambling problem, and am happy to hear you have contacted GA.

By the way, who made the bets?
That's what I thought.
Doesn't anybody in the world have the balls to accept responsibility for their own actions anymore?

The only way you would have a legal claim for them to refund your money, is if you can prove that you lost the money due to their mistake or gross negligence

[/ QUOTE ]

Hello,

This is incorrect.

Thanks.

How so?

Also, the guy who called me a moron because I don't think "compulsive gambling" is a valid claim, any more than another addiction, learn to think or write. Preferrably both.

Edit: Also, I think this is a real case. The poster in question is not a native English speaker, and neither is the individual support team member/manager who responded personally to his inquiry.
