Well, Newark might very well be easiest for the Columbia center. LGA (or JFK) for the Cornell center.

There aren't really any hotels near the Columbia center, (at least not any major chains), so I'm thinking your best bet might be to stay in the Times Square area (if your budget can afford it) and take the A train up there, if you dont' have to be right near the hospital. Or you could stay in Fort Lee, NJ and take a quick bus trip over the George Washington Bridge.

I'm less familiar with the lodging situation for the Cornell center. I know there's gotta be some hotels/inns around there, but boutique-type places on the Upper East Side may be expensive. You'll find some chain hotels in the 30s and 40's on the east side, and can either take the subay uptown a bit, or cab it over to the hospital.

Then again, staying anywhere in Manhattan will be expensive.
