Re: Why aren\'t there online qualifiers for non-main-event WSOP?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I think stars is missing the ball on this one. They should let people use their extra W$ towards the smaller events on the condition that the person wears the pokerstars gear. [/ QUOTE ] If I'm not mistaken, last year, they wouldn't allow logos on clothing for the final table. If that rule applies to non-main events also, then your idea wouldn't work. [/ QUOTE ] Okay, but if a Stars player wins a bracelet they could still use them in advertisements. |

Re: Why aren\'t there online qualifiers for non-main-event WSOP?
There are about 20 tournaments a day on party poker to qualify for these events. i.e., most 20/30/50/100 MTT pay more than enough in the top 3-5 spots to pay for a $1500 buy in and travel. Granted, you have to beat a much larger field, but a $1500-$3000 buy-in should not be too hard to scrape up if you are playing quality poker (Thus, also why they don't have any sub-event qualifiers at the WSOP itself - apart from side games ). On the other hand, not too many of these events pay enough even to the top spots to qualify for a 10K buy-in, thus they have satellites.

Yeah, but WSOP satellites attract A LOT more dead money than regular tournamnets of the same size.

Point taken. But that inures to the benefit of the player rather than the benefit of the casino/website, leaving them with a limited expectation that siphoning players off their regular tourneys (and lowering payouts) is a +ev move.
