Granting limited moderator privliges to select posters would help.

That is the solution. Most boards this size would have several moderators - assign a few trusted posters per group of forums.

I imagine if must be incredibly difficult to patrol these forums solo.

that works

That's exactly my idea.

Even just 3 or 4 posters would help.
If they see BLATANT spam they get rid of it.

If they see something that is questionable then they notify Mat just like we normally do anyway.

That said - I don't think the spam around here is THAT much of a problem. The save-everyone guy/program is kind of annoying though and it does seem that stuff like that could get worse.

while i doubt 2+2 would go for this (we have asked in the past and been shot down), i would immediately like to say thx for the mention but i can't do it as i am an advertiser.

this would be a clear conflict of interest.

There is a thread in the small stakes forum about the Jesus Freak and how they identified him. I did some googling on the name, and he's been spamming all kinds of message boards. Even one of the links he gives has added a disclaimer saying they don't approve of him. He's using an AOL account and creating Yahoo email accounts and then going out through Google Usenet. As of now, AOL says "not our problem."

From other boards, these are the relevant addresses to complain to at AOL:

abuse@aol.com; tosreports@aol.com; tosusenet@aol.com; tosgeneral@aol.com

Maybe if they get enough complaints about this user "Ronald Grossi" then they will change their tune. It's getting old. If anyone thinks I overstepped posting any info. here, I will edit it out.

I'm taking this opportunity to say again that we really, really need mods to close and move threads that require it. I'm not really sure why don't have any already, heck I'll even volunteer. These forums are getting big and the problem is only going to get bigger unless something is done about it.
