Hmmm. Considering how he was calling you down and not raising, I suppose I understand your play. IMO, the villain did not put the pressure on you like he should have.

Your play was fine. Checking the turn or check/calling or even check/raising the flop would have also been reasonable, but I don't mind the way you played it. The best way to play it really depends on the villain, e.g. how likely is he to fold to a turn bet after calling a flop bet. The villain should have raised you on the turn, at which point you would have to fold. |

Thanks for the replies. When I realised how lucky I had been with that river I started to wonder whether I'd missed something.

[ QUOTE ]
The villain should have raised you on the turn, at which point you would have to fold. [/ QUOTE ] This sounded "correct" to me at first, but when I looked at the # of players & stack sizes I had to admit that if I were playing OP's hand I'd call that turn all-in. Then I thought about the math to see how far my intuition was off. Well, given these stack sizes, you're getting something like 5:2 to call an all-in raise on the turn. Maybe a sizable -EV proposition given these hands: Omaha Hi/Low 8-or-better: 40 enumerated boards containing 6s Tc 8c 5d cards scoop HIwin HIlos HItie LOwin LOlos LOtie EV Ac Qc 3c Jh 1 16 24 0 3 37 0 0.237 Ad Kd 8h 2h 22 24 16 0 37 3 0 0.762 but throw in the times the guy is just raising w/ current nut str or a set or something and it makes it a pretty clear call IMO. With much deeper stacks, I still might call because of the possibility he's overplaying a high & for image's sake, but I would know in the back of my mind that a fold is definitely EV-correct. |
