Default Trying too hard on the river?

Party Poker (7 handed) 5-10 blinds

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
5 folds. I call in early middle and Villain raises it 25 and I call. Villan is unknown, 24/5 PT stat after 50 hands, which doesnt mean much. He has 1k and I have him covered.

Flop: 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks. Villain bets half the pot and I call.

Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Villain checks. Obviously I was going for a check raise here

River: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
I bet 125 into a 175 pot. Villan raises to 300 striaght leaving himself 650.

I moved all-in. Insane?

Why on earth would you ever try to get someone to lay down a 7 here?

What is your reasoning for a turn cr...doesnt seem to to have much +EV in the long run.

My read of the hand was that he didnt have a seven. I kinda convinced myself, rightly or wrongly, that he had interpreted my bet as being weak and wanted to move me off the hand. If I move in he can't call unless he has a 7.

Admittedly it didnt feel great.

If he contination bets the turn, he is really going to struggle to call unless he has a very strong hand. He could easily lay down overpairs here.

So we are expecting a min-raise from the villain with an overpair on the river?

I'm the first to admit my thinking here is muddled and contradictory. I'm a PLO player moving over to NL and lots of situations feel alien to me. Afterwards it did feel like an exceptionally dumb play. Comments on the other streets? Intended c-r on turn?

Elaborate?

River play to one side, how were the other streets and the intended c-r on the turn?
