Someone give a defense of the BCS that makes sense.

It makes a huge amount of money for schools, so I don't have to pay even more money next year.

It'd be better if it didn't have the human element, but people would riot if the coaches poll was doen away with I guess.

The BCS was created to make sure #1 plays #2 in a national title game.

If there was no BCS, USC would be playing Penn St in the Rose Bowl and Texas would be playing whoever the old Big12 #1 played (Sugar Bowl? I really don't remember).

The BCS was created to get #1 to play #2. It works.

It worked last year, too, even though there were 3 undefeated teams...the consensus #1 played the consensus #2.

I don't like the BCS, but I dislike persistent whiners who say that the BCS doesn't work even more.

That's a terrible post. Of course there are good defenses of the BCS.

Here's the most obvious defense: it allows us to have a national title game, whereas there were many years in the past that couldn't happen.

agreed, that's main point number 1
main point number 2: it makes money, lots of it

I challenge the OP to give me some reasons why the old bowl system was better than the BCS

I am almost positive that the OP is too young to remember 1991.
Anyone old enough to remember Washington and Miami not playing for the title knows that the BCS is an improvement on the old system.
