Re: Would you have said anything? (Players asks to see mucked cards)
OK, so excuse my ignorance, please - I've only played in casinos 4 or 5 times, and no one ever asked to see anyone else's hands while I was playing.
So this is a standard rule? Anyone can ask to see your hand if they so desire? If so, that's a complete revelation to me. And where did the expression "I'll pay to see your cards" come from? If people can just request to see the cards, seems kinda pointless. I can totally understand having the right to say "I think that guy's up to something, can I please see what he had," but to be able to just say "hey, you know, I feel like seeing my man's cards" for no reason? That's news to me. I understand that nobody's going to realistically do it all of the time, but could they if they wanted to be an ass? with no justification? So does this rule only apply at limit tables, or can you do that in cash games and tournaments as well and it's just never invoked by the pros (thankfully)? Again, excuse my ignorance, but I just don't play that much in casinos (i didn't even know you could chop the blinds until I read it on here!) - however, if I tried to pull that move in a home game that I play in they'd boot me out instantly. It's funny because my friends always say that Pokertracker is a "cheating" program because you can see what everyone mucked. Apparently, that's not the case? Someone enlighten my dumb behind, cause I really never did know this. Come to think of it, I swear that someone asked me to see my winning cards at the Bike when they folded to a river bet and I said no. Was I in contempt? |

I usually don't say anything, and then fold preflop face up in the guys direction until the dealer tells me to stop and then I tell him to shut the [censored] up and then I start telling the player to [censored] die and then the floor gets called over and I finally stop. [/ QUOTE ] By far the funniest thing in this thread. |

I\'ve asked before
Just this weekend playing 4/8 I had top pair, good kicker and got check raised on the flop. Three opponents stayed in the whole way.
- The check-raiser showed a rivered flush - The second opponent a rivered higher flush. - The third mucked. I asked to see the thirds' cards to know if I had the best hand until the river. He got mad at me, but the dealer showed me the hand. It was top pair, bottom kicker. It was a huge pot and I just wanted to know that I made a good call on the flop and the turn. Is that so wrong? Re: Would you have said anything? (Players asks to see mucked cards)
I think you are unclear about the rule and I am sure your friends are unclear about what PokerTracker does.
In a casino, the hands that can be requested to be seen are those hands that actually reach the showdown. On the River, A bets, B folds, C calls. Everybody dealt into the hand has a "right" to see the hands of A and C. Nobody has the "right" to see the hand of B. Online, depending on the site, PokerTracker will show you the hands of A and C, but not B, even if C has the looser and "mucks" (does not show). But you can find out yourself by looking at the Hand History. How is that cheating when the info is readily available to everyone, including those without PT? Come to think of it, I swear that someone asked me to see my winning cards at the Bike when they folded to a river bet and I said no. Was I in contempt? No call, no showdown, the rule does not apply. |

Re: I\'ve asked before
In his defense I would assume it is an honest question and he is asking because he does care.
I do think it is in bad taste. People muck losers because they do not want to give away the information that you are seeking. I think it is bad karma (and -EV in the long run) to do this, even if the rules allow it. I found it irritating when someone did it to me; I would never ask someone to show a mucked losing hand at showdown. One major exception is to invoke the "show one show all" rule, but I only occasionally do so (for specific information gathering reasons). |

Re: Would you have said anything? (Players asks to see mucked cards)
havent read any other responses, but i feel that you could have handled the situation better. you shouldnt have been laughing at the kid. its very likely that he doesnt realize its bad etiquette to see someones cards. i went through this phase myself actually. when i realized that asking to see someones cards was a big no-no i stopped, but i used to regularly ask not knowing any better.
if it was me i would have handled the situation as follows: "the rule that allows you to ask to see someones cards is only there to see if they are cheating, mainly by collusion. you do have the right to ask to see someones cards but realize that experienced poker players collectively agree that it is a big no-no. celebrity players dont ask to see someones cards because they understand this. if you want to see his cards then thats fine, i wont say anything more but just realize that asking to see someones cards is disrespecting the game." |
