Default Has anyone ever.....

Felt this stupid!! It was my 8th trip to casino in 4 weeks. that's only couple shy of all i played in last year and a half ( availability). i've won most, one big loss. I knew a night was coming, I'm a believer in math.

So, I'm down 35 bb's. I know of about 10 bb's worth of mistakes I"ve made but really was following Al's great advice. Think about them , but later. poker is now. And I was doing a good job of that.

Not a full table like i'm used to and you know, terrible cards, 2 pair all night, both cracked, yadda yadda.

Well, I have 15 bb's left and I get A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] mp. I raise ( 2 limpers in front ) 6 see the flop. blank and 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] checked to me, I bet, 3 callers. Turn is K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] limper bets, I raise, one caller behind me and original bettor folds. Heads up.

River is 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] me,him,me, he caps. I asked if that was the cap, dealer goes heads up, betting unlimited. I knew that in my head but never seen it yet and never been in situation before. It is the other guys firs hand. Came in late for weeknight in Indiana.

Now you guys are all more experienced and are already mumbling "poor dumb bastard". This nut flush could make me even for nite ( not what should be thinking ) I raise, then him. I think ,I have the 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] for in the middle and A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] so I raise, then him.

Here is the stupid part--as I pushed in another raise it was too late to pull it back as it hit me " oh my god, could he have the Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]" And I felt like matt damon before KGB flipped over his cards.

It wasn't that I thought it impossible he would have that earlier, I just never thought. Thinking has he been drinking, did he think I had a set cause I was raising from get-go, I thought this is what heads up is like,,exciting. But never SAW the straight flush.

guys next to me are going " that sucks. Only card in deck that could beat you. what a crappy loss" I was not thinking poor me, stupid river card or that 's not fair...I'm thinking " YOu are an idiot. Why did you think he was still betting? Cause he is a moron like moi`.

So basically i'm boo hooing here, not cause bad beat, but because would one person on this forum tell me they have been that stupid even if you lie so I can go to sleep tonite... thanks in advance. Please don't let me down.

Given your description of stupid, a poker player who tells you he's never been stupid is lying.

Don't feel too bad. I was at a table once, not in the hand. There was unlimited raising once heads-up. I saw a guy take the ace-high flush to something like 10 raises before it occured to him the the guy who kept re-raising had probably considered the ace-high flush, and didn't care. He lost his whole buy-in to a straight flush.

Straight flushes are so rare that we tend to forget they exist untill we are reraised a few times. Hell, one time I tunica, I raised right into a Royal Flush, Luckily it wasn't heads up so it only cost me 4 BB.

You are going to have to play a lot more stupid than that to even get honorable mention in the stupid club!

I don't think going 8 bets HU with the second nuts is a very big mistake, especially when the nuts is a unique hand. I'm going 4 bets on that river all the time, and probably at least two more. You'll see the K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] a lot of times.

Tough break, sir, but don't beat yourself up over it. Your play was not "stupid."

EDIT: I'm an idiot, the K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] was already out. But still, not stupid.

Actually, unless the opponent is drunk or nuts, it's unusual to go beyond a 5 bet live without the nuts.

Online, there's a cap built in. But live it's like:

1 bet (I have a hand)
2 bet (me too)
3 bet (mine's real strong)
4 bet (well it better be the nuts)
5 bet (yup, it's the nuts)
6 bet (I have the nuts, so either I win or we chop)

First, hearfelt thank you to all you responders. Now that I am in a position to play semi-regular I am beginning to see the vast help these forums are, both strategically and mentally.

Second, yes MRBAA, someone finally pulls in cause figure opponet does have the nuts. What made me mad at myself was I did't SEE the nutz. first heads-up, guy subtly goaded me into pissing contest i think now, I'm still there trying to get even ( saw a post on this today with steamboatin joined in and hits me to a T ) . All of these factors, of course, none of these are smart poker. But not seeing the hand or taking my time to see it ( cause, of course , I did eventually).

I guess the T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] took me so off gurard I"m thinking " He cant' have J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] hi straightflush, I have the eight. Can't have a higher straight-flush because 4 cards to K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and I have the A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I don't know what in the hell I thought happened to the 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or the Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], whichever I was thinking. THAT'S why I felt so stupid.

IT was painful. I never showed any anger or dissappointment( well I wasn't angry,so that makes sense), just said nice hand. But you could tell every player felt bad for you, not cause you lost your money or anything, they are there to take it. Just internalizing the anguish and embarrassment like only another player can. BUT, IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME AGAIN. I'm not wasting my tuition.

Last weekend a freind and I went to B&M Casino in Wendover, NV.

My friend played this hand.
My friend raised PF and got a couple callers. Flop J3Q rainbow. Capped with 2 players, Turn 7 comleting the rainbow, River 2

Friend and opponent went to the felt (about 15 bets ea).

Friend turns over QQ and opponent turns over 33.

Opponent left in shame.

I was even dumber today. About 8 people limp and I complete the SB with 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]...
Flop is 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Turn Brick
River 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
There are five or six people left in the hand and I have to believe that at least two made a flush. I'm first to act, so what do I do? I bet!
Duh! Everyone called. The pain of it ... awful.
/M

I think this is a great way to think at the table. Every bet says something I just need to remember to listen.
