Default question about pills

what's the cotton for? I just opened some OTC sleep aid and there is cotton above all my pills. Why?

I've always assumed it was to stop them shaking and breaking during transport, and to absorb humidity a little once the seal is broken?

My British Friend,

There is usually a small tube or packet of absorbent that handles the humidity issue.

That one is usually the toughest to swallow, but works the best.

There is a black joke that has to do with that cotton but I can't remember it correctly.

**Warning** Racist Joke Ahead

Why do they put cotton in medicine bottles?

To remind n*****s what they were brought here for.

I knew the joke since I was a kid (I grew up in Houston and there was a required course in 8th grade called "Race Relations: Why Blacks, Mesicans, and Jewish Can't Get Along".

I am suprised that YOU actually typed the joke though Pfunk.

We don't have that here.

We do get this crunchy sweety or soft chew though. I think it's for being a good patient and finishing up the bottle.
