Default Re: Nano-limit Stars: Take the free card?

[ QUOTE ]
I was just wondering if I should have bet the turn to protect my hand should it have been best.

In this instance, it's almost inconceivable to me that your 8s would be best at this point, so most times you'd be protecting a second-place finish (but then it IS the nano-limits).

Any bet you make here would have to be for value. Since you have 7 clean outs (the 6 straight cards and one 8 that don't put the flush out there) you don't have enough pot equity for a value bet. Top pair with a good-to-top kicker would be worth a protective bet, though you'd be called by any real draw.
