Default Live MTT Structure Woes (LC)

I LOVE to play live and living in Florida, my options are severely limited. We have a dog track and a horse track card room as well as an Indian Hard Rock Casino...none of 'em had great structures but at least some were playable. After tournies were suspended here then re-started, it seems the card rooms have done everything in their power to screw over the players

Derby Lane (dog track) used to have a $33+12 for T700, blinds start at 10/15 and go up every 20 minutes. I know the vig SUX but at least the game was playable. I've cashed several times and took 1st once.

After the suspension was lifted and play resumed, the structure had oddly changed. T1500 with blinds at 25/50 for the same buy-in...30xbbs to start. And with 10 hands per round, it's now a TOTAL crap shoot!

Would you even bother playing?

So then I started to play at the horse track, better structure and players but only open during race season and only when the horses actually run. Old structure was T1000, blinds at 10/15 but with 2 extra levels Derby didn't have, 75/150 and 400/800, really made for some nice play. Vig was just as bad but at least you had much more manuvering room.

The season just started on December 10th, so they're back open and my 1st chance to play was last night, and once again, after getting all geared up for my favorite game, I'm shocked as once again, we're being bent over the coals.

New structure, T2500 with blinds at 25/50 for 15 minutes, then 50/100 for 15 min, then 100/200 for 15 minutes. Get a break then 100/200/25 for 20 minutes, all remaining rounds are 20 minutes. 200/400/50, 300/600/75, 500/1000/100, 1000/2000/200. The dealers we SOOOOO inept that during the ante levels we were getting 6 hands per level on average....OMFG!!!!

With 30 people left out of 118 runners, average stack was T9000, only issue was blinds were at 1000/2000/200 and we got a total of 5 hands at that level.

Once again...Would you even bother playing?

I really enjoy the live game and now have few to no choices, this really SUX!!!!

I think the vig and structure make this horrible to play in unless it's super-fishy.

I'm in the same boat (as you know).

The only thing I can say is that, well...it's all we have. Just take it for the fun of playing in the occasional live tournament.

I consider it "me" time. I get to get of the house, play some live poker, and just have fun.

Actually, this begs the question: Do you now consider the structures equally bad? In other words, is it now a waste of time for me to drive the extra half hour or so to get to Downs?

I have the same issue and problems with the tournaments in the South Florida area. State laws here regarding poker are so outdated, but that just stands to reason with a state that always seems to get things backwards or end up in a scandal.

I now look at the live tournaments here as a total crapshoot for the exact reasons you state. I still give myself better odds than most of the other players that enter, but it still requires being smacked in the face with the deck. I don't enjoy the local live games all that much directly due to the structure that they use.

There are some local higher stakes games that exploit the laws by preventing you from going broke in the first 'X' number of hands. The first level is 25/25 limit for those first 'X' hands (Total Buyin/32) and then changes to 25/25 NL for the remainder of the 15 minute level. This structure actually gives you a chance to build a stack but requires that you're willing to play in some of the higher stakes games. Florida law says you can't lose more than $32 in a single poker hand and this is a nifty little loophole that some of the local tournaments are using. Do any of the card rooms near you do this?

Florida poker laws are rediculous. As for the tourney you mentioned, I'd play it a couple times and then give up. Get a group of friends together and start your own tourney. Hell, spread your "weds night poker tourney" by word of mouth. You can set your own structure and charge no Vig.
