what a terrible thing to happen to such an outstanding top-notch individual...

Is this a joke? I wouldn't call anyone who cares at all whatosever about a politician's summer home compassionate, and I wouldn't call anyone who didn't the opposite.

I wouldn't even give him a nickel, and the fact that the media would even point out that a particular politician's home was destroyed is not only irrelevant and insignificant, but disrespectful to people who lost their *only* and *actual* homes and probably couldn't afford to buy others for vacationing in the first place.

Save compassion and sympathy for those who need it; there are many.

I agree. It doesn't matter who's home was destroyed. The fact that anyone's home was destroyed is sad.

I think that it IS in bad taste for media to point that out. I am not sure it's actually disrespectful, but it may very well be close.

It's a summer home, and he's doing just fine. Call me (actually... don't) if he really needs something or is adversly affected in any substantial way.

Also, it's not at all disrespectful for the media to report this. He is a public figure, and that makes news. It's as simple as that. In fact, I bet he loves the coverage, because it makes him appear to be a slightly more sympathetic figure.

To act like this is some great tragedy for him, and that the media should, for reasons unknown to me, shy away from reporting this is completely silly and a little bit disturbing.

But most people already knew all that, and didn't need me to tell them.
