Default Underrated 80\'s Movies that Don\'t Get Enough Respect

I'll start first with "Real Genius". Just watched it the other day, and was surprised at how the jokes were still funny, and the message still relevant. The final 5 minutes of the film, with Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" as the kids play in the popcorn and William Atherton rolls up to the house is one of those perfect blendings of song and film.

I still use many lines from Real Genuis in my day to day life. Whenever anyone asks me if I run, I reply "only when chased."

Heh. I use this one too.

Always wanted someone to ask if I could hammer a six-inch spike thru a board w/ my penis...because I can.

Also, if I'm saying something is history, gone, I'll throw in "Casper."

"can you pound a 6 inch spike thru a board with your penis?"

"Not right now"

"well, a girl's got to have her standards"

great line...Val Kilmer became on of my fav. actors off that movie - but he never lived up to the hype

Pretty in Pink gets plenty of respect when 80's films are brought up. We are looking for less likely choices.

Add

Killer Klowns from Outer Space for kitsch category.

Less than Zero. Though maybe it already gets enough respect, but still the most prescient casting in the world. I mean, Robert Downey, Jr. as a coke addict? How did they ever get him to play it so convincingly?

Last American Virgin. For spawning an entire genre of 80s teen movies.
