Default Believing in God

I am undecided about whether God exists or not. I have yet to be sufficiently convinced either way.

This being said, I'm wondering if believing in God would be a psychological comfort so to better handle the swings of limit shorthanded play. Thoughts?

you know you're not going to find any solid "evidence" either way. if you can genuinely be comforted by trying to believe in something just for the benefits, then do it. if you can, you'll be like lots of other people out there already.

The issue of believing in God is one of faith (and the religion forum). You will not get hard scientific proof from either side of the debate.

Some people just need God in their lives to go on. If they face hardships or difficulties, they turn to God and he guides them.

I personally think this mentality is a load of [censored]. I got through some of the most difficult times in my life without God and I think I'm a much stronger person for relying on myself to get me through than some invisible friend.

That being said, I think that once you decide that God is not for you (you haven't specified what side of the fence you're on) it is hard to try and fool yourself into believing he is there for you. When it comes to poker and the swings, I think it is a far greater feat to learn for yourself to deal, and be prepared next time, than to pray....and pray.

In a gambling forum this is the perfect place to apply Pascal's Wager. If you believe in god, and there is no god, nothing happens. If you believe in god, and there is a god, you go to heaven. If you don't believe, and there is no god, nothing happens. But if you don't believe, and there is a god, you go to hell. Therefore believing in god is +EV and you should bet on god. What if there is a god and you worship the wrong one?

If there is A god, meaning one, you go all-in "cause you can't lose. If there's more than one (are gods), you check your PokerTracker stats before you bet.

Edit:
should have been GodTracker stats.

What if there is a God and he severely punishes those who worship him?

This is wrong:

[ QUOTE ]
If you believe in god, and there is no god, nothing happens.

[/ QUOTE ]

e.g.
Crusades
Suicide bombings
etc...

No belief in a heaven => More appreciation for the one shot you got => Don't f it up.
