Brad also offered a pretty good explanation of his reasoning elsewhere in the thread. I would read over that. I'm not saying that I completely agree with this reasoning (I don't), but he does defend his position.

I like the river check a lot because it looks like you fear the flush draw sucking out on you and and given you turn bet there's no way villians are thinking that card helped you. That is a great time to induce a bluff and I'm confident it will work more than 50% of the time. Well worth chancing this getting checked through.
