Default Was this just wrong? KQo preflop

5/10 6-max (6-handed)

UTG is a major LAG, MP is loose-passive, and BB is a normal guy.

UTG open-raised, MP coldcalled, and it folds to me in the SB with KQo. I 3-bet, BB is out, and the others call.

The flop comes 2-suited rags and I suddenly realize that maybe I didn't handle this so well. I have no appealing plan for playing this hand OOP versus a LAG PFR and an LP. In particular I'm not enamored with trying to prove that K-high is good by betting the flop and turn.

It occurs to me now that this fiasco was predictable and the fault is in my reraise. If I had just coldcalled I would have an easy hand to play:

1. Top pair, big kicker: checkraise the LAG and stomp on people.

2. Draw: checkcall or checkraise as warranted.

3. Missed: proceed to next hand or possibly peel the flop.

What do you think?

I would almost always just call in this spot for basically all the reasons you've stated -- but I'm not sure if this is correct. But I would likely 3-bet KQs here, so I think the crux of reraising preflop is not immediately feeling compelled to spew postflop with no fold equity (if that's the type of player he is).

Problem I think is not 3betting and then c/folding a missed flop. Assuming the flop is not A high I think we give up to much when we fold this hand vs this type of player.

However 3betting puts us in some crappy spots, mainly when we lead (after missing) and get raised or called by the loose passive. I think I'd rather 3bet something like AJo here than KQo since we have A high and w/ the raising standards of a LAG I think our hand puts up more of a fight post flop (ie I'd rather see a showdown UI w/ AJ than w/ KQ).

In conclusion, WTF, poker is hard soemtimes.

I agree and always cold call here whether it's KQo or KQs.

I like it. What other hands do you think are good to CC in this spot? Would you do KJo, KTs, A8s?

What kind of range are we giving this LAG? If we call w/ KQs or KQo and c/f lots of flops i think we're missing lots of value with those hands. Same with these other hands mentioned, are we peeling the flop more often than perhaps odds tell us to, knowing that we may indeed have the best hand? I dont like calling his KTo raise w/ KQs in the SB and c/f a 9 high flop.
