An important point in favor of betting the river is that I can beat the five. This villain could easily be carrying a five as part of a flush draw or wheel gutshot.

If I get raised I suspect I would be lucky to see "only" A5. This would be a very strange time to try to steal the pot and I don't see any reason to call.

Villain folded the river. Thanks for your comments.

hey stellar,

TBH I c/f this river against this particular opponent. While he will call the flop and turn with all sorts of junk draws, he is folding the lion's share of them at the river. He's passive post, so he may be calling an A, PP, or better 9. If he has a worse made hand he will certainly call with it, but it is doubtful in my mind that he will have such calling hands often enough to invest the full 1BB.

An important note IMO is that he will check behind many hands that beat us.

Going to read the replies now.

Well, it really seems pretty unlikely that the villain will happen to be carrying a five, and much more likely that he will call with a hand that beats you.

I like check/call, gives him an opportunity to bluff a busted draw, or check behind hands that beat you (hes just as likely to have a T as he is a 5 per your argument). If hes not the bluffin type, you can prolly check/fold
