First live NL tourney - was this move ok?
I played in my first live NL tourney last saturday. I play a lot of live 3/6 limit and online NL Sit n' Go's.
I did fairly well. $27 buy-in 140 players and I finished 26th. I played straightforward poker the whole time. The move I made that knocked me out was the only one I wasn't sure of so I wanted to get some opinions. 10 players at the table. Tournament is 2 hours old, blinds are 2000/4000. I have 14,500 in chips which is an average stack at this table. UTG has about 17,000. Button has about 25,000. I have 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the BB. UTG calls, MP calls, button calls, I check. 4 to the flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG bets the minimum (4,000). MP folds. At this point I'm thinking fold because the Button is contemplating a call. But the button folds. While the button was contemplating I got a tell off of UTG that he did not have a hand. He was staring at the Button player in a "strong means weak" fashion. After the button folded I pushed all of my chips in over the top. My thinking is that I need to make a move to survive until the final table, and even if UTG calls I may have the best hand at this point. UTG calls and turns over K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Turn is a blank, river is 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and he takes it down. Right move in that spot? I was right about being ahead, but of course he was right calling with all of those outs. Should I have taken my remaining 10,400 and waited to make a move before the blinds came around again? |
