While I have to raise my eyebrows about comments about "Urban Blight" in AC.

Are you for real? I understand you live there and all, but Atlantic City is not the nicest place to get out of the car and take in the cultural scene. Any city in which I walk a block from my destination to my day rate motel and am accosted on the way by toothless hookers, I would qualify as an area plagued by urban blight.

I'll be honest in saying that my last trip to AC really challenged the opinion I had developed of the place. The outdoor outlet mall seemed really nice, the boardwalk was well kept with some new high-end stores going in behind Caesars (but what's with the human-powered taxis??????), and the whole area down by Trop seemed very walkable in several directions. I do not feel as safe on some of the sidestreets, though, particularly forther up towards the Taj. And the presence of pawn shops and strip joints really does lend itself to the urban blight characterization. To truly shake the image of a seedy, run-down, crime infested place, AC will have to continue developing as it is for another decade or so, and will have to do something about the hookers and homeless.

Oh, and Borgata is sinking? What's that about... I'm inclined to doubt that unless I see something authoritative. A $1 billion hotel just doesn't seem like the kind of place that would be engineered in anything less than an obsessively stable fashion.

I don't think it's fair that you people characterize AC in such a way. I would even go as far to say that most of you may not have ever been to a major city. I have spent a great deal of time in AC and am even considering moving to the area.

AC is an odd place. When I made my first trip I would say that I felt comfy in certain areas but I would never dare leave the car from my trip to the Taj to the Borgata. I would guess that most of you feel the same way. Now that I have spent more time in the area I would say it's no different from Baltimore. Yes there are strip clubs and pawn shops in the area but if you visit any major city it's just the same. I live in Baltimore and there are just as many in my city. In fact in Baltimore there is a block of strip clubs and only strip clubs and then the next block over is corprate buldings. The funny part is Larry Flynt landed his hustler club by the corprate area and not the strip area. You can also see just as many hookers in Bmore and NYC.

I think the main difference between these areas and Atlantic City is the fact that AC has gambling which has run down the city a bit more. I would say though with all the revitalization going on I would be interested in buying a condo now and selling it in ten or so years. I bet it would make me a bundle.

Just my thoughts.

Yes--come to Baltimore and we will show you areas that make the "urban blight" in AC look like Beverly HIlls!!!

Well - most of the time when I travel between the casinos its usually close enough for me to walk or ride the bike. Of course bike hours on the Boardwalk at only 6am to 10am so I have to use the main drag...

I do use the Jitney which is the small bus @ $1.75. But I also use NJ Transit buses. In particular I use them a lot more in the summer when I go down to Margate or Longport and ride back on bike or walk the beach! Ah... The babes on the beach are a sight to see! (A bit of culture!)

But in summer I do bike to the Borgeta. The Valet attendants don't like it when I park my bike in front of the big front doors.

As far as culture - Don't you read the billboards when drive in on US30/US40/AC_Xway ??? Every weekend there are shows!!! Take your pick?

I'm fast asleep @ 2am when the toothless hookers are wandering the streets.

And if you are looking for them at that time of the night, why not settle for ones that have a bit of a bite that hang around the casino bars...
