Most of the stuff in volume 1 is obsolete.

i disagree with this, most of the benefit from reading poker books from seeing how experts think about the game and situations, not for direct advice they give. ive read a lot of sklanskys articles on stud and other games i dont play but they are very helpful. its the same thing with the non NL sections of super system, i only play NL but i still read the omaha/etc sections. if only read the sections of books which are directly your game and expect to draw 100% relevant plays/methods to your game from the books you are making a mistake.

buy SS2, not 1, there's been a recent debate about this under the title "would anyone buy a book from hoyt corkins". Noticeably, SS2 is eseentially the same book as SS1, with some minor add ons and minor changes. SS2 makes SS1 obsolete(except for the brunson life story and such, which is somewhat neat, not worth another 100% of the money though)
