Default Why is the Felt Green?

...I said because green was the opposite color of red and would
make it difficult to see a card's suit as it was being dealt, etc.

Correct me, please...

Ive played on tables with red speed cloth, and it makes the cards tough to see.

Also consider green felt craps tables and red dice. I like your guess, but why not:
purple/yellow
blue/orange?

Green is the most soothing color in nature, and poker needs alot of soothing.

Because green is the color of money? Isn't that what the casino wants you thinking about while playing?

-Todd

Note: The color green is also supposedly an aphrodisiac (sp?).
