Default Raising when first in

Hi,

Currently my game is weak/tight - working on that. One problem I keep running into is that often my raises from the early position get too much respect at the tighter tables. When I raise with hands like AA, KK, AK from the early position or when first-in, I frequently see everyone fold and at the low limits I play, the win isn't worth much considering how rare these hands are.

Should I occasionally try calling with these hands in an effort to get 1-2 players to see the flop, or is this bad advice regardless of the limit/tightness of the table?

Thanks!

The key would be to raise with more hands not raise with less. You're raises in EP are probably too predictable. Raise with AA-99, AK-AQ, KQ in EP (more in LP depending on the number of people in). People will respect your raises a little less either that or they will overrespect them and even if you only won the blinds everytime you're actually doing well for the range of hands you would be raising with (.75 BB per hand is nothing to sneeze at).

If you havent, read SSH and read & post hands in the micro limit forum. Maybe try posting this question in there as a start.

Rather than limping with those hands, start raising with a wider range.

That, or switch tables.

I agree with the other replies. Too much respect is not a problem. It is an opportunity. Loosen up just a little at least until you're forced to show down something a little weaker than your usual "big 3" hands.
