Default From Villian\'s Perspective

Let's look at this from a different angle:

Soss raises UTG
Flop: check,call
Turn: check
River: weak bet

This is a great time to make a move, Dan's laughing to himself.

I think a call on the river was in order. You had played passively since the raise before the flop and your bet on the end says I have Ax let's see if it's good. This is the perfect time for a bluff. This scenario is at least 30% as likely as a value bet with a flush or AK and you are getting close to 3 to 1 to call with 2 pair.

I like the blocking bet on the river of about 250-300. Then I'm calling anything short of a push. In a winner take all STT the big stack is god.

There are two ways to play these hard and fast early. Or soft and passive early. So if your raising AJ UTG on the first level even though this could be a flush draw you have to get a showdown on the river.

My question is, when you raised UTG, what was the result you were hoping for? Just to pick up the blinds? You had to have planned for a flop since it seems there's a resonable chance someone is going to call. So assuming you were thinking you'd see a flop, what kind of flop were you hoping for?

good question.

I also automuck this hand UTG at a full table. but Since you did play this hand UTG. Why not show some strength on the flop? You could try to represent AK. Check-raise? why give a free turn card? Your earlier blunders make this river much harder to come to a decision.

At the point of folding what range of hands did you put Dan (the as then unknown opponent) on? My decision would have been greatly influenced by the fact that this was a winner-takes-all SnG.

I would have folded pre-flop.
I would have checked the river and called any bet up to 500.
There's probably hindsight involved here but I think he would have seen the river bet as weakness and acted accordingly. I would have called.
