and how exactly does 55 or 66 know they are slightly ahead? Uh the point is that they don't know.

Funny video of Matusow. Good natured.

What's missing from his analysis is the size of the blinds in relation to the stack sizes that were pushing with small pocket pairs. And, as DS points out, if he's raising with AQ and repeatedly seeing all-in in response, after about 3 or 4 he should figure out "I'm probably a dog in this battle once again."

His rant would have a little more punch if he weren't repeatedly getting his money in as a 47% dog.

Anyone notice how at the end the interviewer and Mike shake hands for about two hours? If you watch it again and pay attention to it, it's hilarious.

That doesn't make him any less pot-committed.

Pretty sweet interview. I enjoyed it. Mike is probably a pretty hilarious guy when he's in a good mood.

With Matusow the +EV of calling with 55 and winning mostly comes from him making stupid plays the hand efter the coinflip he lost.

When your opponent gets you to put all your chips in the pot with the inferior hand, you have been outplayed.

This is in general (and very often) not correct.

Specifically, in Matasow's hand with AQ vs 55 he has the inferior hand but was certainly not outplayed.

If a guy will call with AK, AQ, AJ, KQs, ATs and any pair:

The guy with 66 is way ahead of 55,44,33,22 == 24 hands

Way behind against 77,88,99,TT,JJ,QQ,KK,AA == 56 hands

Slightly favored against AK, AQ, AJ, KQs, ATs == 56 hands

Just throwing this range of hands out not saying it's realistic. However, the thinking is that I need to double up and I'm willing to take the worst of it but I won't be taking too much the worst of it.

Approximately off the top of my head, that guy with 66 is about a 7-6 dog to come out on top. Not a bad gamble when you need to double IMO. I realize that the range may not be realistic but this is the thinking involved with making the move with a hand 66 IMO. Also if you don't know where you're at after the flop against some players i.e. they play better than you after the flop it even makes more sense IMO.

Wow the handshake was insane. You could tell the interviewer felt uncomfortable as Mike shook his hand and kept rambling on. It looks as if he actually tried to pull his hand away TWICE. Good stuff.

I'd say he moved in for 120000, was called by a hand that can't call in that spot and he lost the coinflip. Pretty standard.

You guys have been dealing strictly with the math of the situation. Let's take it more subjectively. We now live in the big money "Moneymaker" era of poker. If you win(or even make a final table) at any of these tournies(not just the ME), it can change your life. The average player in these tournaments know they can't play tight against a top pro, hence the looseness.
