Re: As a broke \"pro\" which game would you play...? (some stats)
Wow this thread got a lot more responses than I thought it would...
to summarize so far, I have quite an array of responses. I have one PM spamming me about 70% rakeback at Prima... Lots of people saying just grind 3/6... A couple "hey stop going to showdown so much" folks.. TStoneMBD with some great comments... Bobbyi with good thoughts as well... Helpmeout wtih your doomed--play more hours... Some guy who thought I onl want to play 15 hours a month... Subfallen espouses the benefits of a lifestyle with no firends or social life or other interests ousiede of poker... And a drunk American in China who is the king of the world... Pretty hilarious thread in all. I guess TStoneMBD, bobbyi, jba and Surfbullet have given the advice I feel most helped/encouraged by. I wasn't expecting the general tone of so many posters to be so negative...I feel cautiously optimistics about my ability to accomplish what I have been talking about. I starting playing one year ago with a free $10 on Royal Vegas and have never deposited any of my own money. End of January I started over again with $300 to my name. I've made and cashed out about 18k between then and now and I've never played over 20 hours a week. There are prob at least 2 months in there where I didnt play at all. From last October to March was basically learning the game, starting to win, building the roll and slowly moving up level by level. .05/.10 on up. Well, I guess we will see how it goes--maybe I'll update this thread at the end of November and we'll all be a little wiser from seeing how this turns out. Thanks for all of your input guys. |

Re: As a broke \"pro\" which game would you play...? (some stats)
I found myself in basically the same spot as you a few weeks ago. I just got married, so have paid about 25k out of my BR the last year, not including living expenses, and it killed me. I finally had a bad run and found myself left with about $500 BR after paying some necessary stuff. So...I got a job. It is not the end of the world! After playing full time for 2 years and growing to hate poker I decided to make it a hobby. It is already fun again and will certainly be more profitable, as I will no longer have to cash out winnings and will be able to play the big games before too long. My recommendation to you is to get a job, play for fun, and if you make more money from poker than from your job, great! Buy a house outright and retire! Anyways, these are my conclusions after 4 years of playing seriously and 2 years playing full time.
