I'm down to 5400 when the flops comes. I bet 2000, he raises to 4000 say (very big stack) - and if I call, I'd have 1400 left. Would be pot committed no?

This hand is basic, if he check-raises you on the flop, you put your money in. You're happy to get it all in with this hand on this flop, you are very far ahead most of the time.

Yeah, no way you're getting away from this. Bet 2k on the flop, if he calls push teh turn, if he raises you on the flop, push. Pretty simple.

Yeah, I see those lines - but if you are going all in on a call or a raise, why not get to the same point with a push on the flop right away?

A push may fold out inferior hands, whereas a 2k bet will encourage a push from a weaker ace or less of a hand even.

There's 3k in the pot, you have 5400, you want action on this flop. Betting 2k might induce villain to push with a T, flush draw, weaker A, whereas pushing will probably get a T or flush draw to fold and could give the A a chance to make a good laydown. Let this guy hang himself.

This is some incredibly flawed thinking in your spot. And you should try figure out why before ever playing a hand of poker again.
