Did you mean "unscrupulous," or do you just not know what "scrupulous" means?

No doubt someone here has better inside info but I've worked (as a musician) on 19 different cruise ships and the casino staff & Management have been some of my closest frineds. Hell, I even learnt Hold'em playing with those folk after the casino closed for the night.

I'm not saying it's impossible but I doubt very much there is any cheating in cruise ship casinos. With a captive passenger base to draw from, the lack of sophistication and massive drunkeness of most passengers not to mention the disoreintation most landsmen have while on a ship, why would they have too????

Some of the casinos are run by companies that specialise in cruise casinos and some are run by reputable land based casinos. Ceasar's has either NCL or Carnival and they are regulated just as land based casinos are.

I'm sure the games have a high house percentage and doubt it would be EV to play except for some WPT type poker cruise but, see captive passenger base above. ;~)

Why is it such a big deal that the other guy had AJ??
Were they somehow setting him up with KJ to lose a big pot?? It's not like KJ is a freaking monster to set up somebody with.

Because NOBODY outplays Phil Hellmuth

Did they even have cruise sponsored poker games back then? I think that he's probably talking about a "private" game on a cruise ship.

PS I'm reasonably sure that the games on the large liners are unrigged, but I remember going on a small day cruise (NOT specifically for gambling) out of Miami and we had a dealer change after the first ~ 10 (mostly profitable) hands of blackjack. The new dealer immediately won the next 5 or so hands. I didn't gamble the rest of the cruise.

I bet you're right. I quit playing ships in 2002, just before the poker boom and I'd be suprised if any but the largest ships have poker. The great god of the Sea is REVENUE!

I'm not saying at all that they don't micro manage to try and eak out every cent they can. Just won't re-arrange cards to do so. Those small day cruises scare me. they used to burn a lot and have the WORST captians afloat. Was on one that was banned from docking in Cozumel after he rammed the dock a second time.

I think it's more interesting that he says he had only $64,000 to his name only months after winning the WSOP ME.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too! That's some rough [censored], honestly.

I’d won a lot of money in the side games.

Hi Aces:

Based on my understanding, Hellmuth has never done very well in side games despite his success in the tournaments. In fact, I also undersand that he quit playing side games several years ago. So the fact that he includes this statement in his story makes the whole thing to me suspect.

With that said, you always need to be vigilant no matter what game you are playing in, and if things don't feel right, it might be best just to take your loss and get up.

Best wishes,
Mason

In Phil's book he talks about doing poorly in side games, and that motivating him to study the successful players...

I dealt to him in a $300 stud tournament when he was in his mid twenties. After being cold decked for about 20 minutes he wondered out loud if he was being cheated. The comment was not directed at anyone in particular.

Most likely comes from delusional/egomania (or something like that) that he just could not handle the idea of losing on the square.

AJ outrunning KJ just seems like everyday poker to me as does misreading your opps hand...
