This tournment is looking pretty juicy with the 100k added, think if someone were to pay for someones entry fee as a christmas present, hint hint, that second someone might be very thankful and give 75% of any winnings back to the original someone, nudge nudge, wink. Hehe, good luck all.

A. I agree.
B. I see that the prize pool is "100,000 Added."
C. Present prize pool is 250G+/-
D. Usual guarantee is 700,000
E. This appears to be a clever way to avoid a huge overlay.

Am I wrong?

Why, do the guaranteed tournies ussually not reach their guarantee? I doubt stars regularly has to add much, let alone more than 100k to make sure a tournament reaches it's guarantee.

I've never seen Stars NOT meet the guarantee. However, it being Christmas, the bean counters could have forecasted a low turnout for the 700K. Rather than having to put up a massive $200-$300K overlay, they hedged their bets by "adding $100K for Christmas." Makes sense to me.

Yes, you are wrong.

There is no law requiring a $700K-guarantee tournament on the final Sunday of the month. Nobody would fault the site for saying (for example), "in light of the Christmas holiday, this month our $700K-guarantee $500+30 tournament will be held on Dec. 26 [or Dec. 30 or 31 or whenever]". Aside from being $100K cheaper for PokerStars, this solution would avoid the long-term ill will that a promotion like this on Christmas Day is bound to generate.

I think it far too early to say it WONT make the normal 700k. It is the last Sunday of Dec. They hold the $530 on the last Sunday always and we know it. They would probably piss of more people if they moved it to Monday or some other day.

But by adding 100k to the prizepool no matter how many turn out they are saying, "we will hold this "regular" tournament and say thanks by adding $100k." To expect them to make it a 750k guarantee on xmas is ludicris IMO. Yet it could easily go over that number. I know for me the "added" is why I jumped in. Just looks like to big an overlay to not jump in.

I'm probably not gonna be playing, but let's not forget this guys: Not everyone celebrates Christmas, so why would they change their regular schedule just because some of the people who would normally play have a holiday that day. They don't change their schedule for big Jewish holidays or Chinese New Year etc. so why would they change it for this one?

It would not be a freeroll with 405 players. Prize pool would be $302,500 and last place would get 0.08% of that, $242, for a loss of $288.

The break-even point for 405th place is 1125 entrants.
