True. Those that say checking this is "horrible" or whatever are overstating the situation. As I said above, I believe this is a spot to make a value bet, but it's certainly a close decision.

I would check an A to some players here. Its probably my only chance to get money out of them. If his hand had less showdown value he might have bet.

i think the biggest question here is how often does he slowplay 2 pair/a set on the flop. i think its not worth a bet on the river in this case because, especially against you, i think he's calling with almost nothing you beat.
