The one that bugs me is where people use the word irregardless when they mean to say regardless...FWIW

many poker players consider a bet larger than the BB to be a raise. Get a [censored] life.

There's no call for such a spiteful response.

Yes, it's a raise. I just can't see how it is a RE-raise, that's all.

Yikes, I might need to find a new hobby.

I don't know the specific instance you are taking about, but if someone opens the pot for an amount larger than the minimum, many people consider that "coming in with/for a raise" where other nits say that the first bet into a pot is always a bet.

Ex. blinds 50/100, Chip comes in for 300, Annie makes in 900.

Some say chip bet three hundred and annie raised to 900, some say chip came in for a raise to 300 and annie reraised him to 900.

I don't really care. And there is no need to waste calories and brain cells on this. Poker has never been a game correct grammar, it is a game where some gets "beat" by someone who plays "bad".

Kinda like in NASCAR when they say a guy blew a "motor" when they really mean engine.

It's gotten way too far off-topic.

Go toward the light, sweet thread. The light, the light...

Thank you for the very reasonable, informative, and civil response.

You're very welcome.

Let me know if you have a breakthrough on the getting-girls-in-bed front.

My Dad used to say 'irregardless' and it bugged the crap out of me.

Yes, it's a raise. I just can't see how it is a RE-raise, that's all.

Getting back on track here...

I think what he might have been suggesting is that the first bettor didn't limp, therefore the next guy did in fact re-raise.

Getting back off track...

The absolute worst is when people refer to a "mute" point.

The one that always kills me is when an NBA analyst overuses the phrase "the game of basketball", trying to make it sound intelligent. I cringe when I hear Magic use it over and over...

I think that's right up there with "great golf shot." What other kind of shot would it be; we're playing GOLF here!"

I'm also not a big fan of "at this point in time."

You've got it backwards. To utilize something is to use it for an unintended purpose. So, for example, you might use an umbrella when it's raining...but if you don't have one lying around, you might have to utilize a newspaper to keep yourself dry.

This is a total load of crap. And since I have a degree in english literature AND philosophy (including experience with the philosophy of language) from an equally prestigious university, I consider this discussion HEREBY concluded.
