Here in L.A. people think they're invincible in their cars. It's like a mass psychosis. Even more unbelievable, some of them even think they're good drivers.

They've actually done big articles in the paper about how the way perception works making trains come up on you much much faster than they appear to be going at a distance. It's apparently something that's biological enough to defeat common sense and due caution even in the occasional non-moron.

One of my roommates is an EMT, he took the call for #56. Bad batch was going around Lower East Side for a couple weeks, about a dozen people died. Local papers went crazy over the story.

I remember that. Naturally, no one cared about it until a couple of pretty white girls died, but I think that's just par for the course.
