Default Surprise at Turningstone

A couple of weeks ago I made a post asking about the Turningstone roomrates etc. My wife and I plan to take a trip out there. As I mentioned previously we usually go to Foxwoods or Mohegan on daytrips (2hr. drive) or go to AC (6 1/2 hrs) 3 times a year for 3 nights. She plays slots and will get comps for the 3 nights free while in AC. However we wanted to try a different casino and as long as they have poker there (holdem) I'm happy..When I called for the room rates I was quoted $135.00 per night during the week. But to my surprise when I asked about a poker rate I was quoted $75.00. The few times I've asked for reduced room rates for poker players at other casinos they were not usually available. I was just at Turning Stone yesterday. Unfortunately, Tom Jones was too, so staying there was not an option. I was surprised at the discount though (I was told regular room rates were $185, not $135).

FYI - You have to buy a "poker card" each day in order to play in the room. It only costs $2, but that still pissed me off once I found out about the rake. The rake in the Hold Em games (I didn't play Stud) is $3 for any pot of $10 or more. I found this out playing 4/8 when my first pot was exactly $10. I was BB, EP limped in, and SB folded. EP folded to my flop bet, and I only got $7 back ($4 of which was my blind!).

Anyway, the poker room is a decent size with several different limits of HE, but it was very crowded. Either it was very well-ventilated, or there just weren't a lot of smokers (both of which are nice!).

If I remember correctly they made the poker room smoke free when they moved it a few months ago.
