Default MS Word help, changing default background color

Hi,
I have been messing around with different background/font color configurations to see which is easist on me to read for long periods. I have come to like the white font on a blue background. I find that i have a much easier time reading with this setup.

The problem is that it is a pain in the ass to change the colors each time i open a document, and before i print.

I was wondering whether there was a way to have word display white type on a blue background automatically, and secondly, if there is a way to get word to display the blue/white configuration, but print the normal black/white one?

any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1)tools>options>general tab, second choice is blue background with white text.

2) print on black and white printer

When you create a new .doc file it is based off a template file (.dot).
The template file for a general blank document is 'Normal.dot'. If you alter this file in the manner Shajen suggests, then all future new files you create will have those settings.

Here's what I did to accomplish this.
Locate 'Normal.dot', for me it was here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

Open a blank document
Make Shajen's changes
Select 'File->Save As'
Change the type to 'Document Template'
Call it 'Normal2.dot'
Save it in the same directory as the original one.
Close Word
Change the name of the original to 'Normal2.dot.old'
Rename 'Normal2.dot' to 'Normal.dot'
Open Word
Create a new document & it will use your new template.

FYI, you can do this to any of the canned templates if you want them to be specialized in any way. I changed my 'Contemporary Fax.dot' so I don't have to constantly type my info in every time.

Hope that helps.

I don't know about the printing part...easily testable though

Even if you have the display set for the blue background with white text, it's not going to print that way.

It will just print black and white like it always does, even if you have a color printer.
